Over forty members of the theatre community gathered on a Saturday morning in North Hollywood and fleshed out the first draft of a document called RESOURCES FOR THEATRE PRODUCERS IN LOS ANGELES.
They also identified a number of resource 'gaps' that exist in the resources to theatres and theatre artists, and began discussions of possible ways to fill those gaps through new initiatives and programming.

Attendees included representatives from LA Stage Alliance, USC, Theatre Unleashed, Deaf West Theatre, Umbrella Co., Vibrant Production Management, Eclectic Company Theatre, Divorce!, Up & Running, Steve Moyer PR, Elephant Theatre Company, Robey Theatre Company, Salem K Theatre Company, Crown City Theatre Company, United States Veteran Artists Alliance, Lonny Chapman Group Repertory Theatre, Footlights, Actors Forum Theatre, NoHoArtsDistrict.com, Theatre Unlimited, The Michael Chekov Studio, TheatreCo-Op.com, and Ark Theatre Company - and others!

COMMUNITY ROUNDTABLE WITH MIKE DAISEY

After a packed performance of his monologue HOW THEATRE FAILED AMERICA, Mike Daisey moderated a roundtable of prominent figures from the theatre community, and took questions from the audience.

THEATRE COMMUNITY FORUMS PLANNING MEETING

Forty-eight active members of the Los Angeles theatre community and the staff of LA Stage Alliance came together to cull the topics and plan the focus of future community forums.

ACTIONS TAKEN/IN PROGRESS

Apr/May - LA Stage staff have meetings with representatives of the theatrical unions, in preperation for a possible community forum with union reps in June.

Feb/Mar/Apr 2009 - LA Stage Alliance staff have ongoing meetings with patrons, critics, artists, producers and editors about the state of theatre criticism in Los Angeles and the country, and possible new platforms for criticism.

March 2009 - LA Stage launches a revamped version of LA STAGE TIMES, including new design elements, lower general prices, and THE LIST, a $25/week option for performing arts events to include their title and company name in the LA Times.

March 2009 - LA Stage makes an agreement to partner with Peter Finlayson and FOOTLIGHTS magazine/program company to provide editorial and listing content for the Footlights publications.

Jan. 2009 - LA Stage Executive Director Terence McFarland is in ongoing meetings with the LA Weekly and key players in the theatre community regarding theatre criticism and specifically, the recent elimination of the theatre editor position at the Weekly.
