Biography

Dan Bonnell --- has a long history of developing and directing new work, including projects by Julie Marie Myatt, Laura Jacqmin, Julian Shepard, Alice Tuan, Donald Freed, Quincy Long, Lea Floden, Jim Leonard Jr., Ari Roth, stand up comic Sarah Silverman, Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) and British “Olivier Award” winner, Debbie Tucker Green. Dan was a regular participant at the Audrey Skirball-Kenis Theatre Projects new play development programs in LA and has been in residence as a director at the William Inge Theatre Festival and Seven Devils New Play Festival in Idaho. Mr. Bonnell was Co-Artistic Director of Ensemble Studio Theatre-Los Angeles from 2006 to 2008 and was the Artistic Director of Arcade (a workspace for the theatre and media) from 1995 to 2001. His directing work has been seen in Los Angeles at Pacific Resident Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre-LA, Arcade, Open Fist, the Colony, the Matrix, Theatre @ Boston Court, the Met, Cornerstone, [Inside] @ The Ford, Echo Theatre Company, ASK Theater Projects, Highways, Moving Arts, HBO Workspace and Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. He’s the recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Directing Award, the LA Weekly Directing Award, the NAACP Directing Award, the GLAAD Media Award and has been nominated for Theater Communications Group “Alan Schneider Award” and the Ovation Award. Prior to LA, Dan was a Resident Director at Circle Repertory Company in NYC and staged plays for LORT companies including: Long Wharf, the Asolo, Alliance Theater and Pioneer Theater Company. Internationally, Mr. Bonnell has directed at the Bronfman Center in Montreal and Theatre Les Dechargeurs in Paris. He has been a Visiting Assistant Professor at UCLA, a Lecturer at UC Riverside, a Guest Artist at Denison University, and is currently an Adjunct Professor (Directing) at the University of Southern California.
