Mission
Highways Performance Space develops and presents innovative and socially engaged art that challenges the dominant sexual, psychological, and political paradigms of contemporary American society. Our programs explore relevant social, political, and artistic issues; promote interactions among people of diverse cultural identities; and foster critical dialogues among artists and the communities they serve. Annually, Highways presents approximately 175 performances by culturally diverse dramatic soloists, small theater groups, dance companies, and spoken word artists. We commission and premiere new work, curate an average of 10 annual contemporary exhibitions exploring the boundaries between the performing and visual arts, and sponsor residencies and workshops that provide emerging performers access to professionally-directed training.
