Cloud Nine
The Lyric Theatre
( 02/26/2010 - 03/28/2010 )
Cloud Nine is the award-winning play written by Caryl Churchill and directed by Thomas Colby. Colonial and sexual oppression are the key themes, all told through a hilarious script with a viciously sharp bite. The absurdist story follows an English family from their life in colonial Africa during the Victorian era, to their life in late twentieth century London, except that for the characters, the play spans only twenty-five years. The shockingly sexual overtones of the play force the viewer to examine their own comfort levels as they watch characters work to rise above the roles that are being forced upon them and ultimately become secure in their own skin.
