Biography
In New York, he created roles in "Asian Shade", "The Team", "Twister" and "Vanishing Act" and "The Maderati", both by Richard Greenberg. For nine months, he starred in Carol Churchill's hit play "Cloud 9", directed by Tommy Tune, followed by The Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of "Desire Under The Elms", opposite Kathy Baker. Regionally: "Hamlet", "Romeo and Juliet", Joe Orton's "Loot", Wedekind's "Lulu", "A Poster of the Cosmos" and "Doubt" at the IRT. On the West Coast, Von Dohlen has been seen in Wedekind's "Lulu" at the La Jolla Playhouse, "The Blue Room" at the Pasadena Playhouse, in "Theater District" at the Black Dahlia Theater, and at the Theater @ Boston Court where he played "Voltaire" in the much acclaimed World Premier of Jean Claude van Italie's "Light" garnering the Los Angeles Critics Circle and Ovation Best Actor Award nominations. In 2008 he appeared in Dead Mans Cell Phone for SCR. Earlier this year he returned to Theater @ Boston Court for Jessica Kubzansky's thrilling production of Tennessee Williams' "Camino Real" playing three roles: Don Quixote, Baron DeCharlus and Lord Mulligan. In May 2011 once more, he played Voltaire, this time in Karen Zacharias' new play Legacy of Light at The Cleveland Playhouse, directed by Bart DeLorenzo.
