Biography
Maarten Cornelis was born in Belgium and raised in a theater family. At the age of fourteen he directed his first play and has been directing ever since. Maarten moved to Los Angeles where he trained at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, and worked for the Institute as Technical Director for 2 years. He also starred in several of their productions. Maarten currently works at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles as the Technical Director of special events. He has designed the lighting for many noteworthy events at the Institute honoring guests such as Ennio Morricone, the LA Chamber Orchestra Concert, Bernardo Bertolucci, Pupi Avati, Dino De Laurentiis, Douglas Kirkland, Maria Callas, as well as designing the premiere party for Francis Ford Coppola’s new movie ‘Tetro.’ In addition, he has had the privilege of showcasing works by Leonardo da Vinci by designing the showroom at the Italian Cultural Institute. Recently, Maarten designed a 2 day event with 40 shows at the Pasadena Civic Center for NAVIKA (North America Vishwa Kannada Association) and designed the yearly fundraiser and awards ceremony for People and Parks at the Hollywood Bowl.
