Biography
Marissa Chibas is a performer, writer, educator and arts advocate. Her solo show Daughter of a Cuban Revolutionary directed by Mira Kinglsey and produced by the Center for New Performance at CalArts (CNP) has been presented at the REDCAT Theater in LA, The Daryl Roth in NYC for INTAR, Miami’s Lehman Theater, at the International book festival in Guadalajara Mexico, and Edinburgh Fringe festival of 2011. For CNP she played Edgar in King Lear directed by Travis Preston that toured to the Frictions Festival in Dijon, France and co-adapted the award winning co- production with The Poor Dog Group, Brewsie and Willie that appeared in the inaugural RADAR Festival LA. Marissa has performed in over 50 productions and over two dozen American premieres including The Keening by Umberto Dorado at the ART in Boston, The Predator’s Ball at BAM, Democracy in America at the Yale Rep, Two sisters and a Piano at the McCarter, Another Antigone at Playwrights Horizons Theater, Overtime at the Manhattan Theater Club, Dark Rapture with David Strathern and Frances McDormand at NY Stage and Film, The Mark Taper Forum productions of The House of Bernarda Alba directed by Lisa Peterson and Eduardo Machado’s The Floating Island Plays directed by Oscar Eustis. On Broadway she performed in Abe Lincoln in Illinois and Brighton Beach Memoirs, as well as off Broadway and many prominent resident Theater’s across the United States. She played Marguerite in the Boston Court production of Camino Real. Marissa has worked with artists such as Robert Wilson, Arthur Penn and Edward Albee to name but a few. Her silent film/performance piece, Clara’s Los Angeles was presented at Highway’s Performance Space in June 2011 and will be presented at REDCAT’s NOW festival in the Fall of 2011. Marissa is on the Theater School faculty at CalArts where she headed the acting program from 2003-2010 and initiated the bi-lingual initiative Duende Calarts.
