This page summarizes the changes for those previously familiar with the Ovation rules and regulations.

Changes include:

Eligibility

Click Here for the Ovation Eligibility Policy for 2008-2009.

Voter Ticketing

1. Producers can now allot specific tickets to specific dates for Ovation voters to reserve, just like the LA Stage TIX half price ticketing program.

2. Voters can activate themselves to vote on any performance of an Ovation eligible production they attend, without having to get permission from the producer or LA Stage Alliance. (Though the producer is notified when a voter self-activates.)

3. Voting is never ‘cut off’ by the producer. The producer may stop offering Ovation complimentary tickets after the required 30, but the process of voting itself is never stopped by the producer.

4. For every fifth complimentary ticket a voter reserves to see an Ovation eligible production, they are ‘assigned’ to see a random production on a date of their choice.

Ballots

1. The ‘Touring Production’ category is eliminated. (See the Ovation Eligibility Policy)

2. Producers may now list as many performers in the ‘Actor’ and ‘Actress’ categories as they see fit.

Voter Selection

1. The three year term limit for Ovation Voters is repealed. Voters may serve as many consecutive years as they wish, provided they are accepted each year through the recruitment process.

2. There are now three ways to become an Ovation Voter. The core of the voting pool will consist of the Artistic Directors of LA Stage Alliance Member Organizations who have been in existence for at least three years. These Artistic Directors will be invited to participate and will not have to apply or be interviewed – and will have a lower obligation of voter attendance than other voters.

After the Artistic Directors, a second round of artists will be invited to apply and interview based on recommendations from Artistic Directors, members of the Ovation Review Committee, and last year’s Ovation Award Recipients. These applicants will fill out a written application and possibly be called in for an interview.

Once the Artistic Directors and their recommended candidates have been included, a third group of voters, who self-submit for consideration, will be evaluated and the rest of the voting pool decided.

If you have any questions regarding the changes to the Ovation Awards Program, please contact the Member Services Department of LA Stage Alliance at 213-614-0556 x 12. A full document explaining the new Ovation Awards Program will be made publicly available in early summer 2008.
